Show Your Work: What to expect from Smart Mouth

It's hard to launch a new project in a new area where you're not yet established. So before we launch, I wanted to share a few pieces I wrote for the Register to give you an idea of what to expect from SMART MOUTH.

Show Your Work: What to expect from Smart Mouth
Showing my work: A Profile piece on Shannon Shaw and band Shannon And The Clams in the Napa Valley Register!

Hello friends!
Next week, I'm launching my new project: Smart Mouth! Smart Mouth is a weekly e-mail newsletter with a focus on the local arts community of the North Bay, Napa and Sonoma County. It will focus on local arts news, concert previews, ticket giveaways, interviews and more!

I have been writing a monthly column for the Napa Valley Register newspaper called Word Of Mouth, and also doing regular profile pieces and concert previews for the newspaper. I've focused on what's happening in the Napa arts community and worked to encourage people to participate!

My life partner, Claire and I recently moved from Napa to Santa Rosa for her work. We've been delighted to discover a really wonderful community here in Sonoma County and I've been itching to write about my discoveries.

I've reached out to the Bohemian Alt-weekly a handful of times about writing for them, and I've never gotten a reply. So in typical punk rock Dammit Damian style, I decided to start up my own thing and work to cover the local community in my own way.

I will launch next week, April 15 with a piece about the upcoming "Disturbing the Peace: Sonoma County's Early Punk Underground" exhibit at the Museum of Sonoma County! I was fortunate enough to chat with Senior Editor, KQED Arts & Culture and exhibit curator Gabe Meline & Museum of Sonoma County's Exhibition and Facilities Manager Jon Del Buono about the exhibit and Sonoma County Punk community.

The following week, April 22, I'll have a piece with Bryce Dow-Williamson discussing the return of The Lost Church Santa Rosa!

It's hard to launch a new project in a new area where you're not yet established. So before we launch, I wanted to share a few pieces I wrote for the Register to give you an idea of what to expect from SMART MOUTH.

These pieces are behind paywalls at the Napa Valley Register website, however thanks to a website called Archive.Today, you can read PDFs of these pieces without worrying about the paywall. (Until my bosses at the Register discover I'm sharing them this way and make me take this down! 😉)
